I am not data

We need to have a conversation about the word ‘data’ and how it is being used to undermine our humanity, our integrity, our authenticity; our soul

‘Data’ apparently can include human personal conversations with family and friends. ‘Data’ can include creative activities such as art, poetry, writing, acting and dance

It can include deep thought about what it means to be a human being

“But letting a robot structure your argument, or flatten your style by removing the quirky elements, is dangerous. It’s a streamlined way to flatten the human mind, to homogenize human thought. We know who we are, at least in part, by finding the words — messy, imprecise, unexpected — to tell others, and ourselves, how we see the world. The world which no one else sees in exactly that way.”

Throw up the Kool-Aid. You drank it. That’s OK. We all did. But now is the time to stick your fingers down your throat and get that sick tech bro poison out of your system. Phones were – still are – a magic portal into a psychedelic fun house of possibility. They’re also tracking and surveilling you even as you sleep while a Silicon Valley edgelord plots ways to tear up the federal government. – Carole Cadwalladr
