AI Davos: The hope is that the public does not connect the dots too quickly

  • ENERGY. AI is colliding with the grid. Data centers are forcing delayed coal retirements and new gas buildout. We are increasing emissions to power “the future,” even as clean distributed energy is the fastest path to power. That contradiction will not survive daylight.
  • AFFORDABILITY. Rising AI energy demand pushes up utility bills. This is a regressive tax. Lower income households spend far more of their income on energy, meaning working families are subsidizing AI compute for trillion-dollar companies. They did not opt in.
  • WATER. AI drinks first. Cooling data centers consumes massive amounts of water, often in already stressed regions. Once people realize servers are competing with communities for water, sentiment will flip fast.
