Silicon Valley AI psychopaths believe we should engineer extinction – I know most ordinary people would struggle to understand this but unfortunately these people have accumulated money and power,. so it is important to understand and acknowledge this madness so we can collectively work out how to counter it.
Some of the people referenced in this article by Émile P. Torres, on which i have based this blog, are household names- Peter Thiel of Palantir, Sam Altman of openai Larry Page of Google – who have wormed their way into our Governments and into our children’s bedrooms.
Sam Altman says “I do guess that a lot of the world gets covered in data centers over time” which of course would consume vast amounts of water, energy, land and resources needed for basic human needs. And pollute on an epic scale. But the big tech ‘philosophers’ and ‘gurus’ think it is worth it..
‘blogger Eliezer Yudkowsky says that “if sacrificing all of humanity were the only way, and a reliable way, to get … god-like things out there—superintelligences who still care about each other, who are still aware of the world and having fun—I would ultimately make that trade-off.”
Philosopher Derek Shiller develops this perspective in arguing that…our resources are finite, and the same resources that might allow human beings to live … could be more effectively spent on creating and sustaining artificial creatures. When that becomes the case, the beneficent thing to do is to choose that our children be artificial, rather than natural.He concludes that we should then “engineer our extinction so that our planet’s resources can be devoted to making artificial creatures with better lives.”
Curtis Yarvin is noted as a ‘guru’ or ‘influencer’ to tech billionaires like Peter Thiel ‘Yarvin’s links to élites in Silicon Valley and Washington are no longer a secret. In a 2021 appearance on a far-right podcast, Vice-President J. D. Vance, a former employee of one of Thiel’s venture-capital firms, cited Yarvin when suggesting that a future Trump Administration “fire every single mid-level bureaucrat, every civil servant in the administrative state, replace them with our people,” and ignore the courts if they objected. He has also proposed ‘the best human alternative to genocide’
the “best humane alternative to genocide” is to “virtualize” these people: Imprison them in “permanent solitary confinement” where, to avoid making them insane, they would be connected to an “immersive virtual-reality interface” so they could “experience a rich, fulfilling life in a completely imaginary world.” – Curtis Yarvin
And what about AI Psychopaths in Academia? -apparently ‘a taboo subject’ for research. “We very quickly worked out that this would be a career killer for us. Academics with sociopathic tendencies rise rapidly in the university system and many become journal editors”
