My take on Don’t Believe AI Hype, This is Where it’s Actually Headed | Oxford’s Michael Wooldridge
- The Turing test lead to smoke and mirrors simulation of ‘intelligence’
- AI agents + AI chatbots are a dangerous coercive means (rabbit holes) to autocratic control and surveillance. We will drown in fake news and lose a sense of what is real and good
- Greedy LLMs like ChatGPT which use unimaginable amounts of compute/ data/ water/ resources are environmental self-destruction
- We are embodied beings living in the real world where hierarchy of needs like drinking water, clean air and land for agriculture / shelter, embodied community are essential to life on this planet
- Humans are accountable for all this
- Niche applications can never justify this
- AI has a history of boom and bust
